The El Colorado Ski Center is 36 kilometers from Santiago, which means a one hour drive on the paved road G21 that leads you to Farellones. It is mandatory to use chains for all types of vehicles.
El Colorado is located on the Colorado hill, which has a height 3,333 meters above sea level and a vertical drop of 903 meters. The average winter snow reaches 3.5 meters.
Also, to get to El Colorado there is a public transportation service that operates during the ski season from Monday to Sunday. These buses are taken at the Centro Comercial Omnium, located at 4900 Avenida Apoquindo.
During high season the buses go up from 07:30 AM to 09:30 AM, with continuous departures; plus a special departure at 11:00 hours, with a minimum of 6 people.
In the afternoon, the same buses leave from El Colorado between 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM.
The value of this transportation is $ 12,000 Chilean pesos roundtrip or $ 7,000 Chilean pesos one way.
Are there shops in El Colorado?
There aren't many shops in Farellones, just a market where you can buy some things. There are also no ATMs, so it is recommended to carry cash to buy things outside of the hotels or ski center.
When does the ski season start in El Colorado?
The ski season in Colorado runs from early June to early October.
High season is considered on Saturday, Sunday and holidays as well as the period from July 8th to August 16th.
It is low season every week from Monday through Friday; except for holidays and high season period July 8th to August 16th.
What are the hours in El Colorado?
The hours in Colorado are from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It is possible that closing time can sometimes be earlier, 4:30 PM, depending on weather conditions.
